The assembly point is a place in Meistersrüte in the Appenzell district in the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden .
Historical meaning
The assembly point was a military gathering place on the territory of the former canton of Appenzell and commemorates the Battle of the Stoss on June 17, 1405. This is where the Appenzell people gathered for battle against the Habsburgs . Every year on May 14th during the national procession to “ Boniface ”, the council clerk reads out the battle letter to commemorate this .

The assembly point is between Gais and Appenzell, exposed to the southwest, in a central location in the Appenzellerland at an altitude of around 927 meters above sea level. The assembly point is at the lowest point of a small saddle between Gerenberg in the west and Hirschberg in the east. In a south-westerly direction the Lauftenbach flows directly into the Sitter , in a north-westerly direction the Mendli Bach flows off to the Rotbach , which flows north of the Gerenberg in a westerly direction to the Sitter. Rail and road cross this transition.
Meistersrüte settlement
The assembly point belongs to the department (municipality) of Meistersrüte in the Appenzell district and is outside the fire show community of Appenzell. According to the Swiss definition, both Meistersrüte ( locality , geographical settlement) and assembly point (station) are places. In terms of church, Meistersrüte belongs to the parish of Appenzell. The Meistersrüte settlement comprised 33 houses with 41 households and 169 residents on December 1, 1910.
Transport and tourism
The Appenzeller Bahnen on the St. Gallen - Gais - Appenzell line serves the assembly point twice an hour in both directions. The assembly point station opens up the area around Meistersrüti. The main road 448 ( Neu St. Johann - Schwägalp - Urnäsch - Appenzell - Gais) leads over the «Platz». The railway line and stop was opened on July 1, 1904 by the Appenzell tram.
The assembly point is the starting point for hikes in summer and cross-country skiing in winter.
