action

A man who goes by the name "cat" is sick with severe depression . After many years he meets his friend Brauth again. The two men share a dark secret. At a fair they meet the two 16-year-old women Melanie and Bianca. Together they go to a bar, whereupon another woman, Anna, joins the group.

After the bar visit, the five find themselves in a remote homestead. There the group meets a mysterious old man named Heinrich, who is accompanied by a young woman named Clarissa, who is confined to a wheelchair. Clarissa can only pass through a urine bag or an artificial anus.

On the same evening, the protagonists begin to consume drugs and ponder various philosophical approaches. Clarissa is mistreated and locked in a kind of basement room and murdered the next morning by being pushed down a slope with her wheelchair.

Towards the end of the film, young Bianca is also murdered by the group. After her uterus has been removed with a knife, her skull is broken in. Heinrich is finally eviscerated by the cat and the bride. This is followed by an orgy in which the four remaining members of the group burn Heinrich's body on a pyre, while those involved carry out sexual acts and, among other things, urinate in the fire.

The film ends with the cat dying.

style

The focus of the film is the character of the cat, about whose thoughts and feelings the viewer is partly guided and explained by a voiceover .

It is mostly spoken in poetic verse. Different philosophers and poets are often quoted, e. B. Rainer Maria Rilke , Johann Wolfgang von Goethe or Rainer Werner Fassbinder .

The film contains, among other things, explicit depictions of coprophilic and urophilic acts.

Reviews

“Marian Dora has really succeeded in creating an interesting work, which is worth looking into a little more intensively. [...] The story leaves a lot of room for interpretation. You can't explain that here, and you can't really understand it either. [...] 'Melancholy of the Angels' can actually be described as artistic [...] an impressive, fascinating, strange, strange and quite unique film. "
