Melchior Schwoon jun. (* December 30, 1871 in Bremerhaven ; † October 31, 1956 in Berlin ) was a German entrepreneur.

biography

Schwoon was the eldest son of Johannes Schwoon (1845-1924). His grandfather was Melchior Schwoon (entrepreneur, 1809) . He completed a secondary school and a commercial apprenticeship at the cotton importer Fritze & Co. in Bremen . He worked in England for a few years and then became an authorized signatory at Schwoon & Co., which operated the waterworks with the Bremerhaven-Lehe water tower (Hafenstrasse) . From 1907 he lived in Berlin as a chartered accountant and represented company interests in Bremerhaven from there. From 1934 to 1937 he managed the bankruptcy of the Norddeutsche Wollkämmerei & Kammgarnspinnerei (Nordwolle) in Bremen, which had been insolvent since July 1931 . In 1924 he and his brothers took over the management of the Schwoon company and from 1939 to 1946 he was the sole owner. In 1950 he left his library to the city of Bremerhaven.

The Melchior-Schwoon Street in Bremerhaven-Lehe is named after his grandfather.
