Melek Baklan

Mevlüde (Melek) Baklan (* 1946 in Turkey ) is a German-speaking author and social worker of Turkish descent.

Life

Baklan came to Germany in 1973 and was already working as a social worker for women of Turkish origin living in Germany at the workers' welfare in Duisburg in the 1970s . There she initiated u. a. a literacy course for women who came to Germany illiterate, which she later described in the article When I can read and write, I'll dance for joy (1983) for the magazine Learn German . Baklan's other publications on topics from her social work with migrant workers followed, e. B. in the collection of essays Age and Everyday Life (1988) of Edition Suhrkamp .

In the 1980s, two German-language poetic texts by Baklan were published in book form - the "Unmärchen" Gelin Ayche (1986) and The Secret of the Cloths (1988). These were issued by the Foreigner-Friendly Measures Working Group . Previously, Franco Biondi , Jusuf Naoum and Rafik Schami Baklan's Alie Söyler and German Reality (1982) had already been included in an anthology of German migrant literature.
