Melica cretica is a species of pearl grass ( Melica ).
features
Melica cretica is a low eyrie hemicryptophyte that reaches heights of growth of 8 to 10 centimeters. The panicle is one-sided, thin, columnar, not interrupted and 2 to 3 centimeters long. The lemma of the sterile flowers is glabrous, that of the fertile one is silky and long.
The flowering period extends from May to August.
Occurrence
Melica cretica is endemic to the Lefka Ori in the prefecture of Chania in Crete . The species grows in hedgehog cushion heaths and rock crevices at altitudes of 1500 to 2400 meters.
