Mellum (ship, 1935)

The Mellum (ex Jan Pott I , ex Diva Maris , ex Klar Kimming ) is a German racing yacht of the 6 meter class ( 6mR ) with home port of Kiel . Her sailing mark is G 22 (ex IX 148), and she is one of the few still existing boats of this "Olympic" class from 1908 to 1952.

The boat was built in 1935 at the Burmester shipyard in Bremen with a view to the 1936 Olympics . Its length is 11.46 m over all or 7.30 m in the waterline , the width 1.90 m and the draft 1.90 m. The water displacement is 5.5  tons . The boat is than 3/4  sloop rigged , and has 45 m² sail area upwind.

The boat, built of wood and composite , took place under its original name Klar Kimming in the German elimination regattas for participation in the Olympic Games in 1936, but could not qualify. However, it later won a number of regattas in its class, such as the important offshore race "Around Bornholm" at Warnemünde Week in 1938.
