Melville Shavelson

Melville Shavelson (born April 1, 1917 in Brooklyn , New York City , New York , † August 8, 2007 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American film director, producer and screenwriter.

Shavelson served as chairman of the writers 'union in the United States' film and television industry, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) , from 1969 to 1971, 1979 to 1981, and 1985 to 1987 .

Life and accomplishments

Melville Shavelson first worked as a writer for the funk, before becoming chief writer for Bob Hope and his Bob Hope Show for five years in the early 1940s . Furthermore, he successfully wrote scenarios for film gags of renowned star comedians such as Bob Hope and Danny Kaye . He made his directorial debut in the 1950s.
