A New Kind of Love is a 1963 American comedy film directed by Melville Shavelson .
action
Newspaper columnist Steve Sherman is sent to Paris to cover the latest fashion shows. On the flight he meets Samatha Blake, who is supposed to sign contracts for a New York wholesaler. She is accompanied by her supervisor Joseph Bergner and a customer, Lena O'Connor. Steve and Samantha hate each other. Steve detests Samantha's arrogance and her hairdo. Samantha can't stand Steve's alcohol consumption and his boorish manner.
Samantha attends celebrations in Paris in honor of St. Catherine at which unmarried women pray for a husband. The pompous celebrations intoxicate Samantha, who believes that Saint Catherine wants to take care of her. She goes to a beauty salon and gets a new blonde hairstyle. At the same time, Lena, who is in love with Bergner, feels left alone because Bergner is interested in Felicienne, who works for Bergner's company in France.
Samantha meets Steve who doesn't recognize her. She pretends to be the prostitute Mimi and tells him about her life. Steve's latest column, inspired by Samantha, is a huge hit. The two fall in love, and Steve finds out that Mimi is the formerly hated Samantha. When Felicienne turns to her work and leaves Bergner, he and Lena find each other again.
criticism
The Lexicon of International Films writes about the film: “Parodistically colored comedy with a guest appearance by Maurice Chevalier; the obviously intended self-irony turned out to be unconvincing. "
Bosley Crowther of the New York Times didn't think the movie was too funny. Shavelson's taunts are quick, contemporary and shrewd, but the story is too thin and obvious.

Joanne Woodward received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy, and Thelma Ritter took third place in the Laurel Award for Best Supporting Actress.
