Marvin Kaplan
Marvin Wilbur Kaplan (born January 24, 1927 in New York City , New York - † August 25, 2016 in Burbank , California ) was an American actor .
Life
Marvin Kaplan graduated from Brooklyn College and then went to Hollywood to work as a writer and actor. He was discovered during a performance by Katharine Hepburn , which also gave him his first film role as a court stenographer in her film Marriage War (1949). Kaplan landed his first success in the 1950s with Meet Millie , a radio comedy that was later broadcast as a television series between 1952 and 1955. He played the young composer and poet "Alfred Prinzmetal" on both radio and television. In the following decades Kaplan was mostly seen as a character comedian, with his deliberately expressionless mine game and the Brooklyn accent becoming his trademarks. In the 1960s he was the voice of "Choo Choo" in the animated series Top Cat and he also took on a small role as a gas station attendant in the cameos- riddled comedy A Total, Totally Crazy World (1963). In Blake Edwards ' comedy The Great Race Around the World (1965) he played the pitiful secretary of a newspaper editor-in-chief who, among other things, flies out of the window during the course of the film.
Perhaps his best-known role was in the sitcom Imbiß mit Biss between 1977 and 1985 , where he played regular restaurant customer Henry Beesmeyer in 78 episodes. Later in his career, Kaplan worked as an animator on television series such as Aaahh !!! Monster , Johnny Bravo and The Garfield Show . In Ted Danson's comedy series Becker , he took on the recurring role of Mr. Gordon. Kaplan also worked as a theater producer and actor in the Los Angeles area, sometimes with self-written plays. For decades he was also a member of the renowned Theater West in Hollywood . Marvin Kaplan died in his sleep in August 2016 at the age of 89.
