Memphis Schulze (born Jürgen Max Schulze on October 12, 1944 in Düsseldorf ; † February 17, 2008 in Berlin ) was a German pop art artist.

Life

Schulze completed an apprenticeship as an upholsterer and interior decorator. In the early 1970s he got to know the Düsseldorf art scene around the Düsseldorf Art Academy and the old town. He made the acquaintance of Sigmar Polke , who became aware of him through his early work. In 1973 he took part in the exhibition Between 7 in the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf and its offshoot Some 260 Miles from here in the Gallery House in London. Sigmar Polke and Achim Duchow invited him to the exhibition MU NIELTNAM NETORRUPRUP in the Kunsthalle zu Kiel in 1975 . There he showed his rock'n'roll pictures. In 1976 I created pictures together with Christof Kohlhöfer (3.60 m² nicely mixed up). In 1981 he founded the artist group Gruppe Tittisee in Düsseldorf with Fernand Roda and Soulis Moustakidis (Failure Meeting and Der Spanner). In 1989 he undertook an extensive trip to Mexico, the impressions of which he processed in the Mexico pictures. In 1993, Memphis Schulze suffered a stroke.
