The menhir of Höhnstedt (also called Hexenstein or Butterstein ) is a menhir near Höhnstedt , a district of the municipality of Salzatal in the Saalekreis in Saxony-Anhalt .

Location and description

The menhir is located about 1.5 km southeast of Höhnstedt behind a fence in an orchard, right next to a field path that is the extension of Langenbogener Straße. It stands there on elevated ground, below the highest point. In a north-westerly direction, the four stones of Krimpe are 2.4 km away and the menhir of Räther is 2.7 km away .

The stone is oriented roughly north-south and has a height of 97 cm, a width of 46 cm and a depth of 28 cm. It is plate-shaped and ends in an oblique tip. A deep furrow can be seen on one narrow side.

The Gänseberg is not far from the stone. A Bronze Age stone box was found there in 1905 .
