Menhir of Saint-Samson

The menhir of Saint-Samson is located in the hamlet of Pen Allan next to the Saint-Samson chapel in Pleumeur-Bodou in the north-west of the Côtes-d'Armor department in Brittany in France .

Menhir of Saint-Samson

The menhir , inclined slightly to the northwest, consists of granite from the Île-Grande . It is 1.85 meters high with a width of 0.50 to 0.60 meters at the base and 0.10 to 0.15 meters at the top. The phallic shape of the menhir probably led to Christianization through a small, incised square cross on the southeast side at a height of 1.35 meters.

Folklore attributes the menhir to the ability to increase male and female fertility by rubbing the stone. The same applies to sick people who want to regain their health.

The menhir was registered as a monument historique in 1964 .

The menhir of Trémarch and the menhir of Saint-Uzec are nearby .
