Mercè Roldós i Freixes (born September 25, 1910 in Barcelona ; † February 1989 , according to other sources: January 3, 1989) in Spain ? was a Catalan pianist, composer and music teacher. Roldós taught piano at the Acadèmia Marshall in Barcelona. As a pianist, she belonged to the Catalan Pianist School .

life and work

As a child, Roldós showed a great interest in the piano. She received her first lessons in this instrument from her mother. Later, her musical training was placed in the hands of María Colbetó , a student of Enric Granados . She then studied with Frank Marshall , from whom she also received her piano diploma. She gave her first public concert with the Jofre Orchestra in the Sala Fomento Nacional . After further concert lectures in Barcelona, she gave a concert in the Sala Granados in July 1921 , which, despite the fact that she was only eleven years old , was subsequently rated as her first appearance as a professional pianist. The music critics praised her extraordinary abilities and Frank Marshall publicly confirmed that the Mercé Roldós case was “remarkable from an educational point of view” for him too. He did not hesitate to trust her to teach at the conservatory at this young age. Mercé Roldós also studied harmony and composition with Más i Serracan .

Further concerts followed in Barcelona in the 1920s, which allowed Roldós to mature. The music critics praised her above all else during this time: "More than the elegant and safe technique, this young pianist surprises with the deepest musicality in her performances." Or "Her technique is extremely fine [...] she also has a highly artistic feeling." But after 1929 Roldós hardly appeared in public concerts for unknown reasons.

She worked as a piano teacher at the Acadèmia Marshall . After Frank Marshall's death, Alicia de Larrocha had appointed her assistant director of the academy. One of her students was Rosa Maria Kucharski , who later became the piano teacher of the Spanish royal family.

Roldós has composed a Berceuse for violin and piano and a Nocturno for solo piano.
