The school was founded in 1620 from the fortune of John Harrison, a member of the Merchant Taylor Company in London . Harrison was born in Crosby and the school was under the supervision of the Merchant Taylor Company until 1910. The Merchant Taylors' School in Northwood goes back to members of the Merchant Taylor Company, as well as other schools in Macclesfield and Wolverhampton . The school in Crosby has been in its current location since 1878, just under 1000 meters from its original location. The original school grounds are now part of the Merchant Taylors 'Girls' School, Crosby , which was founded in 1888.
