Mere market in Leipzig-Portitz 2019

Mere is a discounter that belongs to the Russian chain Torgservis . Mere is represented in Germany by the Berlin-based subsidiary Ts-Markt GmbH .

Company in Germany

The first German branch opened on January 29, 2019 in a former Aldi store (nickname: Russen-Aldi) in Leipzig - Portitz . Zwickau followed months later as the second location . The third location was supposedly Chemnitz , but this has not yet been implemented. In November 2019, the Homburg (Saarland) building committee approved the project for a mere store in the Bruchhof district . On April 8, 2020, the discounter opened its first branch in Südpark in Halle-Neustadt (Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Straße).

range

A very limited range is offered, exclusively from the low-price range. The goods are on pallets. Perishable fresh goods such as fruit and vegetables as well as baked goods have not yet been offered. Canned goods, beverages, frozen food, household and drugstore items dominate. The goods come mainly from Eastern European countries that belong to the European Union and therefore remain duty-free. There are no articles from Russia. Due to delivery problems for individual ranges, the Mere store in Leipzig had to close briefly on February 4, 2019. After the reopening on February 6, 2019, new ranges were added, for example detergents, dairy products such as butter, cheese, yoghurt, which are still offered at the lowest prices. A certain type of sausage has meanwhile been taken out of the range by the discounter because the test showed that it was not suitable for consumption.

In the meantime, the market in Leipzig also sold technical devices such as televisions, coffee machines and blenders, which were quickly sold out due to the limited number of units. The same was true for pasta and sugar. In contrast to the well-known German discounters, the range offered is subject to strong fluctuations.

assessment

On the occasion of the opening of Mere in Leipzig, the MDR television reported in a detailed documentary in the series Umschau about the attack on Aldi & Co.? about the chances of success of the Russian discounter. According to this assessment, there is no competition for German supermarkets, especially because of the extremely narrow range, the underrepresented planned branches in Germany and the superiority of Aldi & Co. Mere.
