Merrilee & the Turnabouts was an American rhythm and blues and pop band.
history
Merrilee Rush (born Merrilee Gunst, January 26, 1944), originally from Seattle , Washington, founded the group Merrilee & the Turnabouts in 1964. In 1965 the group went on tour with Paul Revere & the Raiders and thereby received a record deal. In 1968 they released their debut single Angel of the Morning and immediately landed a bestseller, which reached number 7 in the US charts and even came to number 1 in New Zealand . The song was originally sung by Evie Sands in 1967 and was covered by many famous artists in the following years, including a. by PP Arnold , Nina Simone , Juice Newton , Olivia Newton-John , Bonnie Tyler , Dusty Springfield , Rita Wilson , Billie Davis , The New Seekers and The Pretenders .

Merrilee Rush was nominated for the Grammy Awards in the Female Vocalist of the Year category with the song Angel of the Morning .
