Meschulam Nahari ( Hebrew מְשֻׁלַּם נָהַרי* 7 May 1951 in Jerusalem , Israel) is an Israeli politician , minister and Knesset member of the ultra-Orthodox Shas - party .

Life

Nahari studied at a yeshiva . After his military service he received his semicha as a rabbi , and earned a BA at Michlelet Lifschitz ( Hebrew מִכְלֶלֶת ליפשיץ - המִכְלָלָה האָקָדֶמִית הדָּתִית לחִנּוּךְ) a religious teachers' college in Jerusalem , Israel named after its founder Eliezer Meir Lifschitz ( Hebrew אליעזר מאיר ליפשיץ) was named. Upon graduation , he became headmaster and also served as an advisor to the vice minister of education and was a member of the ministry of education directorate. He then became the department director for the culture of the Charedim in the ministry.

After the 1999 elections he became a member of the Knesset for the first time and served as Deputy Minister of Education from August 5, 1999 to February 28, 2003 under Ehud Barak and Ariel Sharon . He was confirmed in the 2003 and 2006 elections and was subsequently appointed Minister without Portfolio, responsible for Education and Welfare in the Ministry of Finance. After his appointment, he proposed a bill that would allow local authorities to financially support unrecognized ultra-Orthodox schools. This draft law found a majority despite opposition from then General Prosecutor Menachem Masus and Education Minister Juli Tamir . In the 2009 elections, he was fifth on the Shas' electoral list and was re-elected. In the 2013, 2015 and 2019 Knesset elections, he returned to the Knesset as a member of parliament. In the cabinet, Cabinet Netanyahu IV , Nahari is Deputy Minister for Interior and for the Development of the Negev and Galilee .
