Metastaze is a Croatian film by Branko Schmidt from 2009. The screenplay is by Ognjen Sviličić and focuses on the problems of young Croatians. Metastaze is the first film from Zagreb that deals with the drug environment.
Actors and Action
The actors are four friends from a neighborhood in Zagreb who embody the hatred, violence and prejudice as consequences of the war and who cannot make friends with society:
- Filip is a former drug addict who is coming back to Zagreb after three years of withdrawal abroad. He's disaffected and doesn't quite know what to do with himself.
- Probably the most brutal of them is Krpa. He is intolerant and aggressive, almost only uses insults and fights over small things. He is obsessed with soccer and sports betting and is also a member of the Bad Blue Boys . He embodies in his role the hooligan , racist , thug and misogynist and thus reflects some of the fundamental problems of Croatian society.
- Kizo is actually a good-hearted person and the most loyal of the clique. His alcoholism is problematic , he devotes his love to cats.
- Dejo is a Serb , the son of a former Yugoslav officer, who has problems with his debts to other people. He is a junkie and often gets into extremely sticky situations.
The four know each other from earlier days. When Filip returns, they celebrate the event with an extensive drinking ritual. But this apparent bond quickly proves to be unstable. The group is often involved in alcohol, drugs, and criminal business. The film is about today's Croatian society, which develops like a disease in its individual stages. The mood in the country is like this sickness with no cure in sight.
