Jürgen Storbeck (* 1946 in Flensburg ) is a German lawyer and former director of Europol .

Life

After graduating from high school, Storbeck studied law in Bonn , Tübingen and Munich . After passing the 2nd state legal examination in 1977, he became a senior detective at the Federal Criminal Police Office in Wiesbaden . In 1983 he took over the management of the International Legal Aid and Search Department . In 1990 he became a member of the development staff of the Federal Ministry of the Interior , where he was responsible for the reorganization of the former criminal police in the German People's Police . From 1991 Storbeck was head of the national central office of Interpol , which is part of the Federal Criminal Police Office.

In 1992 Storbeck went to The Hague to set up the newly emerging European police organization Europol . Until 2004 he was its first director and was replaced by Max-Peter Ratzel . After his return from The Hague, he became coordinator of the Federal Ministry of the Interior for police cooperation with the Gulf States, before he worked as the head of the police department in the Brandenburg Ministry of the Interior from 2006 to 2011 .
