Max-Peter Ratzel

Max-Peter Ratzel (born December 3, 1949 in Dillingen / Saar ) is a former director of the European police authority Europol .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1968, he studied mathematics and physics at the University of Saarbrücken . After joining the police service in the Federal Criminal Police Office in Wiesbaden in 1977 , Ratzel was a student at the Federal University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration , where he completed his training for the senior criminal service.

After his promotion to higher service at the former Police Leadership Academy (now the German Police University ) in Münster-Hiltrup , he worked in various positions within the Federal Criminal Police Office, including head of staff. Most recently, from 2000 to 2005, he was Head of the Organized and General Crime Department.

On April 16, 2005, Ratzel was appointed Director of Europol. His term of office ended on April 15, 2009. He is succeeded in this position by British civil servant Rob Wainwright .
