Rob Wainwright

Sir Rob Wainwright KCMG (* 1967 in Carmarthen , Wales , UK ) is a British criminalist . From April 2009 to April 2018 he was Director of Europol in The Hague .

Career

Wainwright studied at the London School of Economics and graduated in 1989 with a BSc ( Bachelor of Science ). He then held various management functions in the UK Civil Service . There he dealt with organized crime , counter-terrorism and intelligence analysis. From 2000 to 2003, Wainwright was Head of Europol's UK Liaison Office and Head of Europol's UK National Unit in London. In 2003 he was appointed director of international affairs for the National Criminal Intelligence Service (NCIS), where he was responsible for international operations and for developing and implementing a UK strategy against illegal immigration.

He then held the post of Head of the International Department of the British Serious Organized Crime Agency (SOCA) from 2006 . He was responsible for 20,000 police investigations annually and introduced both an international strategy and new investigative capacities.

Wainwright was appointed Director of Europol in April 2009. He held the office until April 2018. He was followed by Catherine De Bolle , Commissioner General of the National Police of the Kingdom of Belgium.

Wainwright is married with three children.
