Catherine De Bolle

Catherine De Bolle (born on February 17, 1970 in Aalst , Belgium ) is a Belgian lawyer, former Commissioner General of the National Police of the Kingdom of Belgium and Director of the European Police Office since May 2018 .

Life

De Bolle studied law at the University of Ghent from 1988 to 1993 and was a training officer in the military police from 1994 to 1997. In 1994 and 2001 she also worked as a lawyer for the National Police, and in 2001 was appointed chief of police in Ninove .

After Fernand Koekelberg's resignation as General Commissioner of the National Police in March 2001, Paul Van Thielen temporarily took over this post. The General Inspectorate's selection committee found De Bolle the most suitable. After confirmation by the Council of the National Police, she was the first woman General Commissioner of the National Police and was confirmed by the Ministry on February 9, 2012. On February 29, De Bolle took the oath of office in front of Parliament and the King and took over the management of the National Police on March 1, 2012.

On March 8, 2018, the Council of the European Union appointed Catherine De Bolle as Executive Director of Europol for a four-year term.

Private

De Bolle is a member of the International Gender Champions network , which advocates gender equality in international organizations.
