Metod Trobec

Metod Trobec (born June 6, 1948 in Planina nad Horjulom , † May 30, 2006 in Dob pri Mirni , incorrectly called in the West under the name "Metod Torinus" ) aka "The Vampire Killer" , was a Yugoslav farmer and well-known serial killer .

Between October 1977 and December 1979 he raped , tortured and strangled five women between the ages of 18 and 52 in the vicinity of the village Dolenja Vas pri Polhovem Gradcu (today the municipality of Dobrova-Polhov Gradec in Slovenia ): Vida Markovič (18 years old), Marjana Cankar (52 years), Urška Brečko (20 years), Ana Plevnik (42 years) and Zorka Nikolić (35 years).

After a robbery on a German tourist who could provide a good description of the perpetrator, the militia came to the Trobec farm to question him. When they accidentally opened the oven of his house, they discovered numerous human bones and skulls in it, which forensic doctors identified as the remains of the five disappeared women. Metod Trobec made a full confession; he was found guilty of five murders on December 10, 1980 and sentenced to death , but the sentence was shortly thereafter commuted to 20 years' imprisonment. He was sentenced to an additional 15 years' imprisonment for two attempted murders (in May 1988 and on August 28, 1992) of a fellow prisoner. His total sentence would have expired on March 5, 2015, but he hanged himself on May 30, 2006 in his solitary cell at the age of almost 58 after 27 years in prison.
