Accomac is a town and county seat of Accomack County in the US state of Virginia . As of the 2010 US Census, the city had 519 residents.
geography
The city is located on the Delmarva Peninsula near the Metompkin Bay .
history
English emigrants settled what is now the city area around 1664 and called the place Metompkin at that time . In 1677 the place was made the administrative seat of Accomack County after the court of Pungoteague moved here. There were fifteen other structures in addition to the courthouse in 1786 when the area was officially incorporated as a town in the state of Virginia under the name Town of Drummond . In 1893 the United States Post Office Department changed the place name to Town of Accomac for the last time .
