The 23rd United States Census was a census that took place in April 2010. It was conducted by the United States Census Bureau , an agency subordinate to the Department of Commerce . According to the US Constitution , the census must take place every 10 years, the previous one being the United States Census 2000 .

Differences to previous census

In the past, all households had to fill out the so-called short form and around every sixth household also had to fill out the long form . The short form usually only contained a few questions about the person, the long form detailed questions about household size, living conditions, level of education, employment and car ownership, among other things. The 2010 Census consisted of just one questionnaire; the long form was replaced by the American Community Survey , which has been held annually since 2005 .

The 2010 Census contained ten questions :

  1. How many people live in the household on April 1, 2010 ?
  2. Are there any additional people in the household on April 1st who were not mentioned in question 1?
  3. Lives of the household for rent to the property with no or mortgage ?
  4. What is the household phone number ?

The following questions had to be answered for each person living in the household:

  1. Surname
  2. gender
  3. Age and date of birth
  4. Is the person Hispanic or Latino ?
  5. What is the ethnic affiliation ( race ) of the person?
  6. Does the person occasionally live elsewhere ?

costs

The cost was $ 13 billion, about $ 42 per capita.
