The Mettler AG was active in the mechanical engineering company based in Arth SZ . In 1987 the company became part of today's SSM Schärer Schweizer Mettler AG , based in Horgen , which is the original operational business of the parent company Schweiter Technologies .

history

The company was founded in 1868 by Arther Franz Werner Mettler when he with the production of calcium - acetylene began gas burners for lighting. In 1880 a new gasoline carburetor was developed. In 1890 Mettler's son Franz Dominik joined the company, which expanded its portfolio and increasingly turned to textile machine production. Mettler machines were mainly used for searing yarn or fabric. In 1905 the first fabric sawing machine was brought onto the market.

In the respective war years, the use of gasoline for searing fabrics was prohibited, so Mettler AG presented the innovation of an electric burner for singeing machines. In 1947 and 1951, the existing production facilities were replaced by new buildings.

In 1975 the company had a patent in the USA for a machine that could be used for twisting threads, and in 1982 that for a piezoelectric singeing machine.

Merger with Schweiter

In 1987, Schweiter AG from Horgen, also active in the textile segment, took over Mettler AG and relocated the entire Mettler production to Horgen. The Arth production site was closed. In 1989 the merged company was expanded to include Schärer AG from Erlenbach ZH and since then has been known as SSM Schärer Schweiter Mettler AG , to which the entire operative business of yarn production was outsourced. The parent company was converted into a holding company and was named Schweiter Technologies . In addition to SSM, today's group includes Ismeca Semiconducto and 3A Composites .

The production facilities in Arth were taken over in 1993 by Asco Bettwarenfabrik , which in turn relocated its production from Seewen SZ to Arth.
