The Mexico Place is a residential and jewelry place in the Berlin district of Zehlendorf in the district of Steglitz-Zehlendorf and forecourt of the same station .

history

In 1904 the prestigious Zehlendorf-Beerenstrasse train station was opened on the Berlin – Potsdam line as a connection for the surrounding suburb colony. From 1905 to 1907 the square in front of the train station was designed as a decorative square with residential and commercial buildings.

The square was laid out as a symmetrical ensemble, which is divided into two halves by Argentinische Allee . On each side there is a building block with a fountain and flower beds , which is mirrored on the other side.

The previously nameless square was given its current name in 1959, based on the streets surrounding it, some of which are named after Central and South American countries and capitals.

On the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the city of Berlin in 1987, the square was renovated and the train station was renamed Mexikoplatz and designated as a garden monument .
