Miandoab ( Persian میاندوآب; Mīāndūāb) is a city in the Iranian province of West Azerbaijan . The population is just under 129,000 (2012).

Miandoab, which is called Qoshachay in Azerbaijani , is located in the delta region of the two rivers Zarrineh and Simineh . The city is surrounded by fertile soil and has a Mediterranean climate . There has also been a sugar factory here since the early 20th century.

The majority of the population are Azerbaijanis and also Kurds . Most of the Azeris are Shiites , but there are also larger groups of Ahl-e Haqq and Alevis in and around Miandoab. Before the Islamic Revolution in 1979, many Baha'i lived here too .
