Michaël Van Staeyen (born August 13, 1988 in Antwerp ) is a Belgian racing cyclist .

Career

Van Staeyen won his first international competitions in 2009 with one stage each in the Istrian Spring Trophy and the Vuelta Ciclista a León . From 2010 to 2014 he drove for the Professional Continental Team Topsport Vlaanderen-Mercator . For this team he won in 2010 a section of the Tour of Denmark , a stage race hors categorie , and in the sprint ahead of Robbie McEwen the one-day race Memorial Rik Van Steenbergen . This was followed by victories at a stage of the Étoile de Bessèges in 2013 and at De Kustpijl in 2014. In 2012 and 2014, he finished fourth in the classic Paris-Bruxelles . In the following years he could not build on these successes with other teams .

Michaël Van Staeyen comes from a cycling family. His grandfather Joseph Van Staeyen was a professional from 1940 to 1957 and his uncle Ludo Van Staeyen from 1971 to 1977 .
