Michael Albert (born April 8, 1947 ) is an American author and political activist in the anarchist - socialist self-government movement.

life and work

Michael Albert lives in Boston . Together with Robin Hahnel , Michael Albert developed a vision for an economic order that he calls Participatory Economics ( Parecon ). Albert postulates a society that is neither controlled by markets nor by central planning and knows neither competition nor control . Instead, this society is based on participatory planning and division. While there is no ownership of the means of production, money remains as a means of payment. The basic principle of Parecon: Everyone should have a say in decisions to the extent that they are affected by them.

Michael Albert is the editor of the internet platform ZNet and co-editor and co-founder of the political web magazine Z-Magazine (Z-Mag). He is the founder of South End Press and the author of a wide variety of books and articles. He is also a member of the interim committee of the International Organization for a Participatory Society .
