AK Press is an international independent publisher and book distributor specializing in radical and anarchist literature. It is run by a collective that owns it.

history

AK was founded in 1987 in Stirling , Scotland by Ramsey Kanaan as a mail order distributor. He named it after his mother Ann Kanaan. The project soon expanded to become an independent publisher and AK now also has a branch in Oakland , California . In 2007, Kannan and other members left AK Press to start a new radical publisher, PM Press .

AK Press is a workers' cooperative , which means that the publishing house belongs to all members of the collective and there are no bosses. Every member is entitled to the same payment and the same right to have a say. Online sales are via a US and a European online shop . In the United States , his “Bookmobile” drives through the country and is on hand at protests and conferences of activists , mostly on request. In the UK , stands are set up at similar events.

The program focuses on a. Anarchism, books about globalization and animal rights as well as reprints of radical classics.

AK Press also sells textiles , stickers, etc. The publisher has also released audio books with famous radicals such as Noam Chomsky , Howard Zinn , Jello Biafra , Arundhati Roy and Mumia Abu-Jamal, as well as music by artists such as David Rovics and Utah Phillips .
