Michael Axworthy

Michael George Andrew Axworthy (born September 26, 1962 in Woking - † March 16, 2019 ) was a British scientist and writer who headed the Iran department of the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 1998 to 2000 .

In addition to the publication of non-fiction books, he had made contributions to Prospect and The Independent and to the weekly radio program Start the Week on BBC Radio 4 .

In 2008 he became director of the Center for Persian and Iranian Studies (CPIS) , which was founded at the time and is located at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter . In March 2019, he succumbed to cancer.
