Michael Barbieri (* 2001 or 2002 ) is an American child actor .

Life

According to his own statements, Barbieri had seen a play as a child in which his brother, who is also an actor today, played and told his parents that he would like to do the same professionally. Barbieri auditioned for his school's theater company and was given a role.

Barbieri got his first role in a feature film in Little Men from Ira Sachs , which he presented at the Sundance Film Festival 2016 and shortly afterwards in February 2016 at the Berlinale . In the film he plays a leading role in Tony Calvelli, who moves with his parents into the house of his late grandfather in Brooklyn , leaving his old school and friends in Manhattan , but quickly finding a new friend in the son of a tenant. The film takes up some biographical elements from Barbieri's life, who dreams of going to the renowned LaGuardia High School and who grew up in Brooklyn himself. The theater teacher in the film is also Barbieri's real theater teacher. The film received critical acclaim because of Barbieri in one of the two leading roles. The young actor shows soulful and aggressive sides in the film, which was remarkable considering his age at the time, says Anthony Lane from the New Yorker . Barbieri, according to David Rooney from The Hollywood Reporter , makes Tony a natural charmer, but also brings a sensitive depth to the role.

In 2016, Barbieri was in front of the camera for the filming of the movie Spider-Man: Homecoming , in which he got the role of Charles. In the film The Dark Tower by Nikolaj Arcel , Barbieri took on the role of Timmy. The film was released in theaters in August 2017.

In the fall of 2016, Barbieri began his education at the LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, which his older brother had also attended a few years earlier. Barbieri currently lives in New York.
