Sundance Film Festival 2016

The Mary G. Steiner Egyptian Theater in Park City

The 32nd Sundance Film Festival was held in Park City , Utah , January 21 through January 31, 2016 . A total of 17 feature films and 19 documentaries premiered as part of the festival, including the films Weiner by Josh Kriegman and Elyse Steinberg , The Birth of a Nation by Nate Parker , Morris from America by Chad Hartigan and Between Sea and Land by Carlos del Castillo . The film Manchester by the Sea , which also premiered at the film festival, received many praise, but received no award. Several films that premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival were shown a month later at the 2016 Berlin International Film Festival , including the documentaries Uncle Howard by Aaron Brookner and Kiki by Sara Jordenö , but also the film Goat by Andrew Neel and that Director's debut Indignation of producer James Schamus . The film Captain Fantastic , which also premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, was shown at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2016 , and Matt Ross won the Un Certain Regard Director's Award there.

• Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Performance - Joe Seo in Spa Night
• Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize - The Shaman and the Snake (El abrazo de la serpiente) (Directed and written by Ciro Guerra )
• Amazon Studios Sundance Institute Producers Award - Morris from America (Morris from America)
• 2nd Annual Horizon Award - Macarena Gaona , Juliette Gosselin , Shanice Malakai Johnson and Florence Pelletier
