The 27th Sundance Film Festival was held in Park City , Utah from January 20, 2011 to January 30, 2011 . Film screenings were shown in 19 movie theaters in Salt Lake City , Ogden and Sundance , each in the US state of Utah.

The jury's grand prize went to the film Like Crazy by director Drake Doremus. The leading actress Felicity Jones was also honored with a special jury award for her performance. She plays the British Anna, who falls in love with the American Jacob - played by Anton Yelchin - at college . When she stays with him past the term of her student visa, she is banned from further entry into the United States.

How to die in Oregon won the documentation category . The film tells the story of a terminally ill patient in Oregon - the first US state to legalize euthanasia .

Another main prize in the “World Cinema” category went to the Norwegian comedy comedy Sykt lykkelig by director Anne Sewitsky.

The film festival was opened with the following five articles, one each competition category: Sing Your Song , Pariah , The Guard , Project Nim , and the short film drama I . The film All That Is Solid Melts into Air was shown in the “New Frontier” category . The festival ended with the film The Son of No One .

The festival was organized by 750 sponsors and 1,670 volunteers. The performances had an estimated 60,000 visitors.

A total of 10,279 films were submitted, including 3,812 feature films, of which 1,943 were from the United States and 1,869 from abroad. 118 feature films were selected, including 95 world premieres. 81 of the 6,467 short films submitted were selected. 40 filmmakers from 29 countries made their debut at the festival, 25 of whom entered the competition with their films.

Awarding

The winners in the short film category were announced on January 25, 2011. On the same day, the Alfred P. Sloan Prize was awarded to the film Another Earth .

All other winners were announced on January 29, 2011 at the Sundance Film Festival Awards ceremony by host Tim Blake Nelson near Park City.
