Michael Behnen

Michael Behnen (born December 29, 1938 in Treptow an der Rega ) is a German historian .

Life

Michael Behnen in 1966 in Göttingen with a thesis on the Prussian weekly from 1851 to 1861 PhD . In 1982 he completed his habilitation in Göttingen with the thesis "Armament - Alliance - Security: Triple Alliance and informal imperialism 1900-1908" . From 1986 until his retirement in 2004 he was an adjunct professor for modern and contemporary history at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen . He was a Hoover Scholar in 1989 and a visiting professor at the University of Jena in 1994 .

Behnen has published numerous scientific monographs and articles. He is editor of the “Lexicon of German History. Events - institutions - people. May 8, 1945 to October 3, 1990 ” .

Since 1958 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. Sugambria (Jena) Göttingen .
