Jörg Nagler

Jörg Nagler (born November 24, 1950 in Kiel ) is a German historian with a focus on North America .

Life

Nagler studied history , English , American studies , philosophy and political science at Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel and Indiana University in Bloomington , USA. This was followed by a doctorate with Hartmut Lehmann in 1984 and his habilitation at Christian Albrechts University in 1997 .

He worked as a cultural advisor at the American Embassy in Bonn, as a research assistant at the German Historical Institute in Washington, DC as director of the Kennedy House in Kiel, and as a visiting professor at the University of Maryland and Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. In the winter seminar 2010/11 he was a Fellow at the Rothermere American Institute, Oxford , and in March 2011 visiting professor at the Center D'Études Nord-Américaines (CENA) of the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), Paris .

Since the winter semester 1998/99 he has been Professor of North American History at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena. In 2009 he published his monograph Abraham Lincoln: America's Great President. A biography .

Memberships and functions

Nagler is, among other things, co-editor of the book series MOSAIC: Studies and Texts on American Culture and History (Tübingen), Fulbright - Liaison Lecturer and member of the Willi Paul Adams Award Committee of the Organization of American Historians .
