Michael Bongardt

Michael Bongardt (born October 4, 1959 in Bonn ) is a German theologian , philosopher and since 2016 Vice-Rector for Studies, Teaching and Teacher Training at the University of Siegen .

Life

After completing a degree in Catholic theology in Bonn and Munich , Bongardt was ordained a priest in Cologne in June 1985 . As a priest in parish work, Bongardt worked from 1985 to 1989 in various Cologne parishes. From 1989 he worked at the Catholic theological faculty of the University of Münster . During his doctoral studies from 1989 to 1998 Bongardt was 1994 with his dissertation The Resistance of Freedom. A transcendental dialogue-based appropriation of Kierkegaard's analysis of anxiety received a doctorate in theology. He completed his habilitation in 1998 with the work The Questionability of Revelation. Ernst Cassirer's philosophy as an orientation in the dialogue between religions. In parallel to his scientific work, Bongardt trained in Gestalt therapy and counseling while working. After completing his doctoral studies, Bongardt worked as dean of the Ecumenical Theological Academic Year at the Dormition Abbey in Jerusalem , where he met Elazar Benyoëtz .

From December 2000 to December 2005, Bongardt taught as a professor for systematic theology and dogmatics at the seminar for Catholic theology at the Free University of Berlin. After leaving the priesthood in February 2003, he worked first from April 2003 to March 2005 as Dean of Studies , April 2005 to March 2007 as dean of the Faculty of History and Cultural Studies at the Free University Berlin. From 2006 to 2015, Bongardt held a professorship for comparative ethics and was managing director of the Institute for Comparative Ethics at the Free University of Berlin, which he founded and was responsible for a range of courses for future ethics teachers. On July 21, 2010, Bongardt was elected Vice President of the Free University of Berlin and held this position until 2014. After the institute he headed closed at the end of the 2015 summer semester, he moved to the Institute of Philosophy at the Free University of Berlin as professor of anthropology, cultural and religious philosophy and comparative ethics. After he was appointed Vice-Rector for Studies, Teaching and Teacher Training at the University of Siegen in April 2016, he has held a professorship for anthropology, cultural and social philosophy at the Philosophical Seminar there since August 2016.

Bongardt's research area links the border areas of philosophy, theology and cultural studies. He published monographs and numerous articles on the philosophy of Sören Kierkegaard and Ernst Cassirer .
