Michael Brokoff (born April 28, 1686 in Klösterle , † September 8, 1721 in Prague ) was a German-Bohemian sculptor.

Life

Michael Brokoff was the son of Johann Brokoff and the brother of Ferdinand Maximilian Brokoff . He began his apprenticeship as a sculptor in his father's workshop. He later continued his training with the sculptor Andreas Guitteiner (1679–1729) (Czech. Ondřej Filip Quitainer) and possibly also with Johann Ulrich Mayer (1666–1721). After his father's death in 1718, he took over his workshop for a short time on the cemetery wall of St. Martin's Church in Prague. Although he was superior to his father in technical perfection, he never achieved the higher style of his younger brother Ferdinand Brokoff, who took over the management of the family workshop after his death. Like his father and brother, he was buried in the cemetery of St. Martin's Church in Prague . The sculptor family Brokoff is still remembered with a plaque there today.
