Michael Caßler
Michael Caßler , modernized Michael Kaßler , (born September 22, 1733 in Braunsdorf , Duchy of Saxony-Weißenfels ; † February 12, 1772, same place, Electorate of Saxony ) was a German cooper . He is said to have been the designer of the first functional impeller .
Life
Caßler was born the son of Christoph Caßler (1698–1742) and Dorothea Pursche (1711–1742) and was baptized on September 24th in the church of Braunsdorf. After losing his parents at an early age, he grew up with his mother's brother. This financed his training as a cooper. In 1749 he was accepted into the cooperage guild of Freyburg (Unstrut) .
In 1761 he is said to have ridden from Braunsdorf to Bedra Castle , which was owned by the von Taubenheim family at the time, on what was supposed to be a self-constructed running bike. This wheel is now in the Deutsches Museum in Munich . But it can probably be assigned to Mechanikus Hoffmann in Leipzig in 1817.
He left behind the two sons Michael and Christian Michael Caßler.
Honors
A memorial stone in Braunsdorf reminds of Caßler. A wheel in memory of the inventor was added to the city arms.
