Michael Collins (born June 25, 1953 in Dublin ) is an Irish diplomat and ambassador to Germany since August 2013 .

Collins attended Blackrock College in Dublin and studied at the Institute of Public Administration , a college of the National University of Ireland . He then continued his studies at Trinity College Dublin . At this he received his Bachelor of Science in 1978 . In the Irish Foreign Ministry Collins worked since 1 March 1974. During his diplomatic career, he held various posts; Among other things, he was First Secretary at the Irish Consulate General in New York City from 1982 to 1986 , and Counselor at the Irish Embassy in Washington, DC from 1993 to 1995

Collins was Irish ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 1995 to 1999 , with simultaneous accreditation in Bahrain , Qatar , Kuwait , Oman and the United Arab Emirates . He was then the Irish Ambassador to the Czech Republic from 1999 to 2001 , with simultaneous accreditation in Ukraine . In 2007 he replaced Noel Fahey as Irish Ambassador to the United States .

Since August 2013 he has been the Irish ambassador to Germany.

Collins is married and has three grown sons. He also speaks Italian and French .
