Michael Donderer

Michael Donderer (* 1950 ) is a German classical archaeologist .

Michael Donderer received his doctorate in 1979 at the University of Erlangen with the dissertation The Chronology of Roman Mosaics in Veneto and Istria up to the Time of Antonine with Klaus Parlasca . In 1979/80 he received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute , with the help of which he was able to travel to the Mediterranean . In 1988 he received his habilitation at the University of Erlangen with the thesis "Written Sources for Craftsmen of the Late Republic and the Imperial Era" . This led to the study published in 1989, The Mosaicists of Antiquity and Their Economic and Social Position. A source study that he carried out in 2008 with Die Mosaizisten der Antike II. Epigraphic Sources. New finds and supplements added. In these studies he compiled all literary and epigraphic sources, especially signatures , on the mosaicists of antiquity. In the same way, he did the same with the book The Architects of the Late Roman Republic and the Imperial Era , published in 1996 . Epigraphic evidence for the architects . With his studies, Donderer made a particular contribution to the prosopography of ancient artists and craftsmen. In 2000 he was appointed adjunct professor at the University of Erlangen . He worked as a teacher at the private St. Josef High School in Biesdorf (Eifel) and taught at the universities in Bamberg, Erlangen, Graz, Innsbruck, Salzburg and Vienna.
