Michael Gerhard Wagner (born April 24, 1967 ) is an Austrian media educator .

Life

After his school days in St. Pölten , Michael G. Wagner studied mathematics and descriptive geometry for teaching at the Technical University of Vienna (TU Vienna) and graduated in 1990 with a master's degree. From September 1990 to August 1994 he taught mathematics and descriptive geometry in Vienna; In 1994 he received the Dr. rer. nat. at the Vienna University of Technology. From 1991 to 1997 he worked as a university assistant at the Institute for Geometry at the Vienna University of Technology, where he completed his habilitation in 2000 in the subject of computer geometry. In September 1997, he spent nearly five years as Professor of Computer Graphics at the Arizona State University . Back in Austria, he took over the management of the Center for Education and Media at Danube University Krems in April 2003 . From July 2008 to September 2010 he was also Chairman of the Academic Senate of Danube University Krems. In December 2005 Wagner received the university professorship for technology-supported learning and multimedia, also at Danube University Krems. From 2010 to 2012 he was Rector of the Church Education University in Vienna / Krems . Since 2012 he has been Professor of Digital Media at the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design at Drexel University .

His main research interests are in the areas of game studies , e-learning and social media . The theoretical approach to game based learning he developed was the basis for the development of the physics learning game Ludwig, which was awarded the German Developer Prize.
