Michael Otto Glocker (born August 27, 1960 in Altheim near Biberach an der Riss ) is a German chemist and biomedical scientist .

Life

After graduating from high school in Ehingen , Glocker studied chemistry with a focus on organic chemistry at the University of Konstanz . In 1990 he was in Konstanz at John Jochims with a paper on the reactions with Nitriliumsalzen to Dr. rer. nat. PhD . He then did a postdoc at Oregon State University (OSU) , where he worked with Max L. Deinzer at the Institute for Mass Spectrometry, particularly in the field of protein disulfide bridges. From 1992 he was a research assistant with Michael Przybylski at the University of Constance. In 1994 he completed his habilitation there with a paper on bioanalytical methods for the biochemical protein modification with the help of high-resolution mass spectrometers.

In 1995 he received a call to the University of Rostock on the first German professorship for proteomics . Since 1999 he has also been the founding director of the Proteom-Zentrum Rostock , a research institute of the Institute for Immunology at the Medical Faculty of the University of Rostock. The center is involved in the molecular characterization of polygenic diseases via proteome and transcriptome analyzes with integrated bioinformatics.

Among other things, he heads the lead project of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research “Proteome Analysis of Humans” and, together with Hans-Jürgen Thiesen, the research project “Development of a peptide chip for autoimmune diagnostics” within the framework of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania excellence promotion program.

Glocker is a co-founder of the German Society for Proteome Research (DGPF) . He is a member of the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh) , the German Society for Mass Spectrometry (DGMS) , the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) , the European Peptide Society (EPS) , the Swiss Proteomics Society (SPS) and the German Electrophoresis Society (DEG) .

He has published numerous scientific papers. He is a reviewer for several scientific journals and a member of the editorial board of the “ European Journal of Mass Spectrometry (EJMS) ”.

He has been a member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. since 1981. Bodensee Konstanz in the CV .
