Michael Hutchinson (born November 20, 1973 in Belfast ) is an Irish author and former British track and road cyclist from Northern Ireland .

Athletic career

In 2000 and 2005 Michael Hutchinson became British Best All-Rounder , a British classification for individual time trials . In 2002 he became British champion in the individual time trial and in the single pursuit on the track. The next year he won a stage in the Irish Sea Tour of the North , where he was once again successful in 2004. He was also the British time trial champion for the second time in 2004. At the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne , Hutchinson finished sixth in the single pursuit on the track and fourth in the individual time trial on the road. In 2008 he was again national time trial champion. Three Irish national championships followed in 2012, 2013 and 2014. He finished twelfth in the 2014 Commonwealth Games individual time trial .

On 2 July 2003 Hutchinson made the Manchester Velodrome the previously operated attempting hour record of Chris Boardman improve over 49.441 kilometers. Exhausted, he stopped the attempt after about 40 minutes.

In 2014 Michael Hutchinson ended his cycling career in the elite, but then started successfully in Masters competitions.

Professional

Since ending his sporting career in 2014, Michael Hutchinson has worked as an author in the field of cycling. In the book The hour. Sporting immortality the hard way , he described the experience during his hourly world record attempt. In 2007 he received a British Sports Book Award as “best new author” . When Dr. Hutch writes a column for Cycling Weekly .
