Michael Jürgen (born September 12, 1973 ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper and current goalkeeping coach at Werder Bremen .

Career

In his youth, Jürgen played for Hannoversche SC and was used in the men's team of the club until 1996. He then moved to SV Arminia Hannover in 1996 and from there in 1999 to the Werder Bremen amateur team , where he was active in the third- tier Regionalliga Nord . After a brief interlude at league rivals Preußen Münster in the 2001/02 season, he returned to the Bremen reserve team. In the 2002/03 DFB Cup , Jürgen played in the first round against Bayern Munich . His appearances in the regional league became less and less over time and so he had his last appearance for the time being on June 2, 2007 (38th matchday) in the home game against 1. FC Union Berlin .

Following his active career, he became a goalkeeping coach at Werder Bremen, where he is responsible for the goalkeepers of the second team.

Due to failures of goalkeepers Sebastian Mielitz , Felix Wiedwald and Sebastian Patzler , Jürgens made a comeback in April 2010. In the game in the 3rd division against SV Sandhausen on April 24, 2010 (36th matchday), he jumped in at the age of 36 and ended the game without conceding a 3-0 win.
