The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (MJFF) (German: Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research ) is a US foundation that raises funds for research into Parkinson's disease . She has set herself the goal of finding therapies for the previously incurable disease.

The foundation was founded in May 2000 by Canadian actor Michael J. Fox , who had to quit his job that same year because he suffered from Parkinson's disease. Your seat is New York . In addition to Fox, the foundation's board of directors has 25 members, mainly business people. It is supported by a 36-member scientific advisory board made up of international neurologists .

Between November 2000 and December 2005, the foundation distributed over $ 78 million in donations to over 200 research projects in 18 countries. Above all, innovative and promising research projects from pharmacy , neurology and neurobiology are funded . The foundation also promotes stem cell research , which they believe has a great chance of making a breakthrough in curing Parkinson's.

In April 2006, the MJFF founded Team Fox (TM), a grassroots campaign to provide community-level fundraising aid to volunteers for the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

With the Fox Trial Finder , the Foundation has been offering an internet platform since 2012, which is supposed to bring together interested parties and clinical studies on Parkinson's near their home by means of anonymous data comparison . In doing so, the organization reacted to findings from a self-initiated survey with almost 1,000 Parkinson's patients: Here it was shown that the Parkinson's community is very interested in an active contribution to the development of new therapeutic approaches for this disease, although 61% of the patients surveyed are not Knew where to find information on clinical trials. Only every 10th affected person had been treated in a clinical study. The Fox Trial Finder database contains both interventional studies to investigate potential new drugs and observational studies that are intended to contribute to a better understanding of Parkinson's disease as a whole. Only studies that have received the approval of the ethics committee are listed on the FTF website. The Fox Trial Finder has also been online for Germany since November 2013.
