Michael Johann (born July 3, 1963 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian politician ( GREEN ) and forester . From 2013 to 2018 he was a member of the Carinthian state parliament .

education and profession

Johann was born in Klagenfurt and graduated from the Humanistic Gymnasium in Klagenfurt from 1972 to 1981. After graduating from high school, he studied forestry at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna from 1982 to 1992 . As early as 1990 he worked as a climate campaign manager at Greenpeace Austria , where he was involved until 1994. He then completed his community service at the Austrian Red Cross in 1994 and then continued his work at Greenpeace, where he worked as a traffic campaign manager for Greenpeace International from 1994 to 1995. He then acted from 1995 to 1996 as action leader for Greenpeace Austria in the fight against the Krško nuclear power plant . In 1996 he left Greenpeace and returned to the roots of his training, where he took over his parents' agricultural and forestry business in the Karawanken.

Politics and functions

Johann was already involved in the student council during his studies and in 1987 he was the departmental representative of the Austrian student body . In 1997 he took over the office of State Spokesman for Green Carinthia and held this position until 2001. He was also a member of the state board of the Green Carinthia from 2005 to 2006. He has acted as chairman of the green farmers in Austria since 2005 and is also the chairman of the green farmers in Carinthia. As an expert in agriculture and forestry, he supports the Green Parliamentary Club in the forest dialogue. He also worked on the Green Forest Program and has been a representative of the Greens in the Austrian Forest Dialogue of the BMLFUW since 2003. Johann was established in June 2012 District Klagenfurt-Land spokesman of the Greens Carinthia and ran for the state election in 2013 , where he was sworn in the following March 28, 2013 as the member of parliament.

From 1998 to 2002, Johann was also a board member of the radio station "Agora" and the Carinthian poverty network, and in 2009 he took on the position of a board member in the nature conservation association Rosentaler Umweltfreunde.
