Michael Johnson (country singer)
Michael Johnson (born August 8, 1944 in Alamosa , Colorado , † July 25, 2017 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) was an American country singer , songwriter and guitarist . His first number 1 hit was "Give Me Wings" in 1986. He grew up in Denver, Colorado and studied classical guitar in Spain in 1966. In 1968 he returned to the USA to play with John Denver in the Chad Mitchell Trio . In the early 1970s he went to Nashville and made his first recordings there with hits like "Bluer Than Blue" and "The Moon Is Still Over Her Shoulder", which were aimed at the pop market. In 1985 he recorded the country duet "I Love You By Heart" with Sylvia . He died on July 25, 2017 after a long illness at the age of 72 in Minneapolis.
