Michael Kahn-Ackermann

Michael Kahn-Ackermann (* 1946 in Bavaria ) is a German sinologist and translator . Since 2012 he has been China Special Representative of the Mercator Foundation in Beijing .

In 1970 he began studying sinology, economics and political science at the University of Munich . From 1975 to 1977 he studied Modern Chinese History at Peking University . In 1988 he was the founding director of the Goethe Institute in Beijing. From 1995 to 2006 he worked at the Goethe Institutes in Moscow and Rome and from 2007 until his retirement in 2011 again in Beijing. Most recently he was regional director of the institutes in the People's Republic of China and Taiwan .

Mr. Kahn-Ackermann is married to a Chinese woman and has translated numerous texts of contemporary Chinese literature from Chinese into German. a. the Werje of Zhang Jie and Liu Zhenyun . The German edition of " Wuhan Diary" , which he has translated, will appear in May 2020 . The famous Chinese writer Fang Fang describes her impressions of the metropolis that was cut off from the outside world for almost three months.
